Man arrested for arson after 13 houses torched

A 48-YEAR-OLD construction worker was arrested on Sunday morning after allegedly setting fire to his own home, which also engulfed 12 neighboring houses in Purok 11, Morio-Morio, Barangay Talomo Proper.

Captain Hazel Tuazon, spokesperson for the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), identified the suspect as alias Arnold. He is facing a charge of violating Presidential Decree 1613 (Arson).

According to the police report, three witnesses saw Arnold pouring gasoline on his house and igniting it around 9:03 a.m. The fire quickly spread to nearby residences, most of which were made of light materials.

Fire investigator F01 Mitchell Anthon Calibo of the Talomo Fire Station reported that the blaze was declared under control at 9:40 a.m. 

Eight houses were destroyed, and four others were partially damaged. No casualties were reported, but the estimated damage is around P100,000. The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Police arrested the suspect in Barangay Talomo Proper around 10:30 a.m.
