Made in the Philippines Paint obtains Lead Safe® Certification

Certified lead-safe paints comply with the 90 parts per million (ppm) limit, the strictest regulatory standard for lead in paint.
QUEZON CITY — Ahead of the International Lead Poisoning Prevention Week (October 20-26), SCS Global Services, a pioneer and international leader in third-party sustainability and environmental certifications, is pleased to announce that Duracoat 100% Pure Acrylic Latex Paint manufactured in the Philippines has been certified as lead-safe.

“Based on the independent assessment conducted by the SCS Global Services, Duracoat successfully passed the requirements of the Lead Safe Paint® Certification program and is authorized to carry the Lead Safe Paint® mark on their paint cans and promotional materials,” said Rob Emelander, program manager, SCS Global Services.

Duracoat Latex Paint, a premium water-based paint manufactured by Roosevelt Chemical Inc. – Triton Paints Philippines, can be used on the interior and exterior walls of residential houses and other structures such as institutional buildings, commercial establishments, warehouses, and manufacturing units.

“Duracoat joins our wide array of certified lead-safe products that pose no lead exposure health risks, especially to children, women, and workers,” said Solon L. Sy, vice president for sales and marketing of Roosevelt Chemical Inc. – Triton Paints Philippines.  “Our participation in the Lead Safe Paint® Certification program reflects our commitment to provide our customers with the most eco-friendly and premium quality architectural and industrial paints and coatings at affordable prices.”

Aside from Duracoat Latex Paint, SCS Global Services had previously certified the following products by the said paint maker as lead-safe: Triton, Rosco, Primecoat, Acri-Lux, and Lotus.

The Lead Safe Paint® Certification verifies and confirms a product’s compliance with the 90 parts per million (ppm) total lead limit for paints and similar surface coatings. This is the legal limit in the Philippines under the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Administrative Order No. 2013-24, or the Chemical Control Order (CCO) for lead and its compounds.  The UN Model Law and Guidance for Regulating Lead Paint also recommends a 90 ppm limit.

Paint products that have been certified by SCS Global Services are permitted to put the Lead Safe Paint® logo on the paint containers, giving assurance to consumers that the paint they are buying conforms with the 90 ppm lead in paint limit.

The Lead Safe Paint® Certification program was developed by the International Pollutants Elimination Network (IPEN) in consultation with stakeholders such as the Philippine Paint & Coatings Association, Inc. (PPCAI) and the EcoWaste Coalition. It is independently managed by the SCS Global Services, the certification body.
