LTO XI: Driver’s licenses only issued in area of residence

THE LAND Transportation Office (LTO) is implementing a new policy requiring individuals to obtain driver’s licenses in their region of residence.

Usec. Vigor Mendoza, Land Transportation Office (LTO) director, reminds the public that non-residents can no longer acquire licenses in other regions.

“We are implementing stricter verification processes to ensure driver’s licenses are issued to residents within their designated areas,” Mendoza said during a press briefing at the LTO XI office in Davao City.

Mendoza explained that the policy aligns with the Department of Transportation’s directive. He said the aim is to streamline licensing procedures and ensure residency verification.

Kung Ikaw nakatira sa ganitong lugar hindi ka pwedeng pumunta sa (If you live somehwere else, you can’t go to) Davao to get license. Same also, kung Ikaw taga Davao Hindi ka pwede kumuha ng lisensya sa (if you are from Davao, you can’t apply for your license in GenSan or other regions,” the Undersecretary said.

According to Mendoza, they are now conducting random auditing of the LTO offices to ensure they have followed the policy. He said officials will face administrative action for failing to comply with the new directive.
