LTFRB XI: No new rules governing PUV modernization

By Gio J. Tanudtanud

THE PUBLIC Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) will follow the same rules and regulations of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).

During the Kapihan sa PIA forum at the NCCC Victoria Plaza Jan. 12, Atty. Ernest Benz Davila, chief transportation development officer, said the board has not crafted dedicated policies covering the PUVMP.

“We’ll be operating using the modernized units and still be governed by the existing memorandum circulars, rules and regulations of the LTFRB in regards to road safety or requirements in sustaining or acquiring their franchises,” he said.

The project’s goal is to make the public transportation system efficient and environment-friendly. It will also replace the old jeepneys with newer, safer, more comfortable and more environmentally-friendly vehicles over the next three years.
