LPG blast injures six

SIX WORKERS were injured in an LPG explosion at a resto-bar in Damosa Land compound along Mamay Road, Buhangin District, on Jan. 31.

The incident occurred around 10:21 p.m., according to a report from Police Station 18 Bajada.

The explosion originated from the restaurant’s kitchen, injuring alias Arnifel, 35, cook; alias Florick, 21, washer; alias Merson, 28, assistant cook; alias Ganny, 26, cook; alias Kayleigh, 22, cashier; alias Elyn, 29, waitress

Initial investigation revealed that a leak in an 11-kilogram LPG tank caused the explosion. Fumes from the leaking tank ignited when they came into contact with a nearby electric fryer.

The explosion caused an estimated P360,000 in damages and burned approximately 30 square meters of the restaurant.

The Lanang Fire Station extinguished the fire at 10:46 p.m. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team later cleared the scene of any remaining explosive hazards. The injured employees were immediately brought to a nearby hospital for treatment.

In a statement, Damosa Land committed to working closely with authorities to thoroughly investigate the incident. It also closed off a portion of Damosa Gateway to give way to renovation and repair.

“In line with our commitment to safety, we are also implementing additional precautionary measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. The well-being of our employees, tenants, and patrons remains our top priority,” the statement said.
