THE CHURCH of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints launched its first ever Light the World Giving Machines in Davao City on Nov. 14 offering opportunities for people to perform an instant act of effective and immediate service to aid the needy.
The newly installed machines at Ayala Malls Abreeza allows a person to buy essentials for those who are in most need such as meals, educational support, or medical supplies. 100% of the donations will go directly to the recipients.
Beneficiaries of the Light the World Giving Machines include UNICEF Philippines, Mabuhay Deseret Foundation, and Ateneo de Davao University.
Under AdDU, beneficial items are scholarships for indigenous and BARMM students, Duyog feeding and sustainability programs, computer literacy training, dormitory fund, substance abuse prevention, and environmental protection.
According to UNICEF Philippines corporate fundraising officer Maida Salcedo-Mission, Davao City is one of the cities in the country that experiences high incidents of violence against children.
She further said that the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) has reported around 1,180 cases of violence against children in 2024.
Light the World Giving Machines was first launched back in 2018, and is one of the key projects of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The initiative is dedicated to charitable giving and acts of kindness that is inspired by the teachings of Jesus Christ, the Light of the World.
