Left groups commemorate HR day, hits government

MORE OR less 60 members from various groups in the city staged a protest rally to commemorate the 75th Universal Declaration of Human Rights around 8 a.m. at Freedom Park along Roxas Avenue on Sunday, Dec. 10.

Captain Hazel Tuazon, the spokesperson of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), said the groups belonged to Anakbayan, Southern Mindanao Region, Bayan-SMR, Transmission Piston, Selda, Gabriela Youth, Sabokahan, and Karapatan.

Tuazon said the group demanded justice for all victims of political killings.

The groups also called on the government to stop bombings, respect trade unions and human rights, defend ancestral lands, and to junk the terror law. They also called on the abolishment of jeepney phase-out, and the call to resume peace talks.

She said the activity ended peacefully around 10:17 a.m.
