Lawmakers propose road to be named after Boy Nograles

City Government officials sympathized with the bereaved family of former speaker Prospero “Boy” Nograles while a lawmaker pushed that a street be named after him.

“We would like to extend our condolences to the family and to say that ‘Boy Nogie’ has really served Davao City and the entire country when he was a speaker,” Councilor Pilar Braga said in her privilege speech yesterday during the regular session.

“The 18th City Council would like to express our thanks to the family, especially with the memory of Boy Nograles for all the good things he has done for the city,” she added.

Meanwhile, Mayor Sara Duterte also expressed her sympathy to the Nograles family.

“I already sent my message to Cab. Sec. Karlo Nograles and I expressed our sympathy for their loss. We understand the loss of a loved one and we commensurate with their family for their loss,” Duterte said.

“We will visit them as soon as they settle the schedule for the wake. My mother also said she wants to also visit the wake of former Speaker Prospero “Boy” Nograles,” she added.

“As a fitting legacy that this body recognize that we shall have a road be named after him. I propose that the road from Ma-a to Quirino Avenue be renamed as Prospero Nograles Avenue,” he said in his privilege hour.

According to Lopez, he proposed the whole stretch of “Doña Vicenta road going to Marfori all, going to San Rafael then UDHA road, down to Maa Bridge, down to Southpoint then to Gem Village ending in Maa road.”

The first Mindanaoan speaker of the House of Representatives died Saturday, May 4.
