A LOCAL juice and milk tea store opened its own community pantry in front of its establishment along Roxas Avenue to inspire Davaoeños into giving forward in these challenging times.
Inspired by the Maginhawa Community Pantry in Quezon City, Juice Cubi became one of the pioneer stores that adopted the concept here in Davao City, Mary Ann Medina, owner of JuiceCubi, shared that it was their way of creating awareness and fostering the Bayanihan spirit of the Davaoeños.
However, she liked to reiterate that they are doing this on their own, having seen the need to help others who are trying to cope with the widespread restrictions brought about by the pandemic.
“We are private individuals and not political. We are not allowed to get involved in any organization or politics,” she said.
On that same day, a second community pantry opened in front of SM City-Ecoland beside the old Matina Farmers Market, followed by another one in Agdao.
Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, in her interview on Davao City Disaster Radio, reminded everyone to follow the strict protocols on physical distancing and wearing of masks.
“Kung wala ma’y violation sa atong protocols, then we do not have a problem with that (If there was no violation committed in our COVID-19 protocols, then we do not have a problem with that),” she said.
