The Junior Chamber International (JCI)-Duwaling urged the public to gather plastic wastes to be converted into 8,100 ecobrick bottles for the establishment of the Marilog Learning Center in Sitio Magwawa.
An ecobrick is a plastic bottle tightly packed with non-biodegradable trash to create a reusable building block. It is used as alternative for concrete blocks in constructing building structures.
“This is not to promote the usage of plastics because we know how harmful it is for the environment. What we would like to rally right now is if you have existing plastics in your houses, gather it to create the eco-brick,” JCI Duwaling member Jaki Bancale said on Monday.
JCI Duwaling will soon have a roadshow in schools to encourage students to participate on their eco-brick workshop on how to create an eco-brick bottle. This will be every Saturday starting March 9 at SM Annex.
“Hopefully we can involve all the schools and maybe we could give prize for the top contributor,” Bancale said.
The project will culminate on March 30 once they achieve 8,100 eco-brick bottles. The construction of learning center in Marilog is expected to be completed on April.
The JCI Duwaling is already conducting reading classes in Sitio Magwawa but “they do it under the tree so we realized that they need a place to be able to read and learn and appreciate education even more.”
