Japanese consul general pleased with Davao Animator Workshop outcome

THE CONSULATE General of Japan in Davao hosted an Animator Workshop at the SMX Convention Center Davao on November 30.

Consul General Ishikawa Yoshihisa expressed delight in seeing how popular Japanese anime has become here in Mindanao and how it inspired many youths to learn the Japanese language.

The workshop helped build on such enthusiasm by bringing the participants closer to the craft and culture of Japanese animation.

Industry experts from Toei Animation, Phils., Inc. headed by its president Mr. Azuma Iriya, and production group manager Apollo Añonuevo conducted the workshop.

The participants learned about the world of Japanese animation, its unique styles, and its differences from its Western counterparts.

The future animators also had the opportunity to draw and share their own original anime characters.

For several decades now, the Philippines and Japan have developed a dynamic and productive relationship in the field of animation. Japanese animation companies frequently collaborate with Filipino studios and artists to bring popular anime series to life.

Many iconic Japanese anime series, such as Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, Slam Dunk, and One Piece, have been mostly animated in the Philippines.
