Japan-Philippine pop culture and cosplay for Araw ng Dabaw at SM Malls

THE J-PPOP Culture Fest 2024 and Mindanao Cosplay Summit events will be held in SM Ecoland Annex and SM Lanang from March 15 to 17 in celebration of the 87th Araw ng Dabaw 2024.

During the PEP Talks in SM Lanang, Jhanriel Pedroso of Ambox Davao announced that the two upcoming events will be a walk-in cosplay with various contests with performances by local artists of Mindanao and Japanese guest performers.

The Mindanao Cosplay Summit will be held at the SM Ecoland Annex Center and will start at 2 pm with a press conference and a cosplay competition on the 17 at SM Lanang Premier Fountain. The event will showcase cosplayers portraying anime characters as well as a cinematic cosplay or a video-making contest where cosplayers will submit their video inputs and showcase them to the audience. 

“The Mindanao Cosplay Summit which is a celebration of cosplay here in Davao, we also have different contest, Jpop singing contests, Jpop dance cover, and meron din walk-in cosplay. So lahat ng other things you like about anime, about culture ng Japan, you can see it there,” he said.

The J-PPOP Culture Fest will be on March 16 to 17 at 4 pm at SM Lanang Premier fountain. The event will be composed of singing, dancing, and music by the various local artists from Mindanao and the Japanese guests. The guests from Japan to be invited to the event are BUGVEL, Chicken Blow the Idol, The Canbellza, and Tenohira El.

Pedroso also added that after the event on March 17, the Japanese guests will be visiting and performing at schools like Mapua Malayan Colleges Mindanao, Davao City National High School, Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai International School, and other places from March 18 to 19 as part of the “J-Idovasion” event.
