THE PUBLIC must be wary of Bagong Bansang Maharlika (BBM), which the Department of Interior and Local Government in the region (DILG XI) warned is another investment scam.

During the AFP-PNP press briefing held at The Royal Mandaya Hotel on Aug. 23, DILG XI regional director Alex Roldan said they are now looking into the group’s registration with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

“I warned the public that there is a group of individuals roaming around named Bagong Bansang Maharlika or BBM nga magpa rehistro ug mangayo ug kantidad sa kwarta same as price sa printing sa ilang ID  (they ask for money for registration and printing of ID) but after that, they will convince you for an investment,” Roldan said.

“We have clear data on that and gipahibalo nko sa tanan nga kini siya (I’m informing everyone it is a) scam, which means mangayo ug investment later on and the money will be double. So, do not believe in that, that is foolishness,” he added

He also narrated that the group went to their office asking for an endorsement. But he asked for clearance from the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency first.

On Tuesday, he talked to the SEC XI regional director on the matter even if no one came forward yet to file a complaint against the group. For now, they have already warned the barangay officials to be on the lookout for BBM.

The group’s modus is to name-drop President Marcos Jr. who apparently gave them the blessing. BBM will supposedly hand out cash assistance but only to its members.

“I don’t know why people are so greedy,” he said.
