Internal cleansing

A RANDOM drug screening on personnel under the Davao Oriental Police Provincial Office yielded three positive results for the use of methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu).

According to the Police Regional Office XI, the drug screening was part of the organization’s internal cleansing campaign as ordered by PNP Director General Rommel Francisco Marbil.

The three police officers have been stripped of their firearms and badges while undergoing administrative proceedings according to existing PNP policies.

Brigadier General Leon Victor Rosete, PRO XI regional director, emphasized the importance of the random drug tests.

“This is a reminder that internal cleansing is a shared responsibility. Our goal is not just to detect violations but to help our personnel stay on the right track. We continue to uphold the highest standards of service while also providing opportunities for growth within our ranks.”

Last week, PRO XI spokesperson Major Catherine dela Rey announced that a patrolman in New Bataan, Davao de Oro, tested positive for illegal drugs. The erring cop was investigated and could be kicked out of the force if found guilty.

The erring officer “will go through the proper process and will be dealt with fairly by the authorized disciplinary board,” she said.
