  • P6.9-M in drugs seized at Toril checkpoint

SECURITY forces from Task Force Davao and the Davao City Police Office seized nearly P7 million worth of illegal drugs at the Sirawan checkpoint in Toril District on Saturday night, Feb. 8, 2025.

The accomplishment came after authorities intensified security measures at all border control points in compliance with Ordinance 048-22, which mandates enhanced protocols during major events and in designated areas within the city.

The apprehended individuals were identified as alias Mijan, 46, married, a resident of Zamboanga City, and alias Abden, 32, married, a resident of Jolo, Sulu.

They were heading toward Davao City in a white Nissan Navara pickup truck (plate number NI739A) when flagged down at approximately 11 p.m.

A search of the vehicle yielded one heat-sealed transparent plastic pack containing approximately 1,020 grams of suspected shabu, with an estimated street value of P6,936,000.

Authorities also seized from them 84 pieces of 200 peso bills (total P16,800), supposedly used to bribe law enforcers along the way.

Col. Rodrigo Mariñas Jr., commander of Task Force Davao, commended the vigilance of soldiers and police officers at the Sirawan entry point.

“The consistent seizure of illegal drugs at our border control points exemplifies the stringent checkpoint operations conducted by security forces to safeguard the safety and security of every Davaoeño by preventing the entry of illegal items and contraband into the city,” Mariñas said.

The apprehended individuals and the seized contraband have been turned over to the Toril Police Station for further investigation and the filing of appropriate charges under Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
