Indigenous peoples art exhibit launches at Poblacion Market Central

PAINTING THE Future: Children’s Month and Obu Manuvu Mohingod Art officially opened to the public from Nov. 25 to 30 exhibiting the rich cultural heritage of Mindanao and promoting environmental conservation.

Thirty artworks of acrylic, oil, watercolor, charcoal, and soil paintings made by Indigenous artists visually represent the “Mohingod” conservation philosophy of the spiritual and wildlife spirits within the ancestral domains.

The art exhibit is designed to support the Indigenous artists by providing a platform for the visual artists from the Indigenous Peoples Coalition for Biodiversity, Environment, and Cultural Integrity (IP-CBEC) to display their artworks.

This also fosters cultural understanding bridging cultural gaps where people can learn the IP’s unique perspectives and way of life.

An art sale of conservation was featured in the festival both in-person and online while the proceeds will go to the participating artists and fund biocultural conservation initiatives via a partnership with the Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF).

The PEF worked with Alsons Development and Investment Corporation and Conrado & Ladislawa Foundation Inc. with a shared mission of preserving Indigenous cultural traditions, ensuring the protection of biodiversity in Mindanao, and safeguarding the survival of the Philippine Eagle.

On Nov 30, the IP artists will conduct a visual arts workshop for children for on-the-spot mural painting sessions, inspiring creativity, and cross-cultural learning.
