Iloilo to host Sports Tourism Forum

Sports tourism advocates in Western Visayas will focus on establishing their communities into
sports hubs when they meet at the Sports Tourism Forum (STF) to be held at the Richmonde
Hotel Iloilo City on June 5, 2025.

Co-presented by the Department of Tourism Region 6 with SELRAHCO Management – the
company that initiated the STF since 2004, the forum will give insights to sport events
management, the economic and social impact of sports tourism to the community, sports
marketing and sponsorships, bidding and budgeting, volunteerism, sustainability and much
more.

Sports tourism is currently the fastest growing component of the tourism industry, contributing
15% to 20% to overall tourist arrivals in key destinations, including the Philippines, across the
globe.

The one day forum will feature top caliber speakers including Princess Galura of Sunrise
Events, Inc the company that brought the IRONMAN brands into the country; Carlo Sampan,
Assistant Vice President of MILO Sports Programs; Charles Lim, Founder and Chairman of the
Philippine Sports Tourism Awards; Mayor Felipe Remollo of several sports awardee destination,
Dumaguete and other presenters from the Department of Tourism, Samahang ng Basketbol
Pilipinas and Clark Freeport – first Philippine Sports Tourism Hall of Famer.

The Province of Iloilo and City of Iloilo, together with other provinces and local government units
in Western Visayas will play a huge role in support of this forum held for the first time in the
region. Panel discussions will curate towards establishing more local sports destinations across
the region.

Expected attendees are provincial and city tourism and sports officers, hoteliers, travel agents,
transportation companies, sports and golf clubs, resorts, mall operators, event organizers,
sports directors from the academe and local sports association officials, amongst others.
