  • CTTMO to summon businesses using public pay parking for their customers

THE CITY Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) will summon establishments reserving the public pay-parking slots to be used exclusively by their customers.

In an interview with reporters, CTTMO chief Dionisio Abude said they received a report that chicken meat stalls in Bankerohan Public Market fronting Posadas Street have put up signages on top of the pay parking zones.

Dapat CTTMO lang gyud magpatindog og traffic signages, pag dili from CTTMO that is a violation, summonan namo sila o pwede sila tiketan,” Abude said in a sideline interview after I-speak media forum.

On June 1, stalls of kakanin, fruits, and vegetable vendors who used to display items on Posadas Street were demolished to give way to the public pay parking.

However, Abude said the proposal to expand pay parking in Bankerohan has yet to be approved. The establishments took advantage and installed “Free Parking. For Customers Only” signages.

Dili pwede ng reservations there is a portion for them to drop off for their goods,” Abude said.

Presently, marketgoers may park their motorcycles in the parking slots along Posadas Street, which is still regulated by CTTMO. To control the traffic flow, personnel give citation tickets to illegally parked motorcycles,  amounting to P500.

Meanwhile, those parked in “tow-away zones” will be automatically towed.

The left side of Posadas Street (from Marfori Street to Rasay Street) is a designated public pay parking zone as stipulated in Ordinance No. 153-A, s. 1990 or the Comprehensive Transport and Traffic Code of Davao City.

This means motorcycles parking on the right side of the street are subject to towing, he said.

He added the office has been strictly controlling the traffic flow in Bankerohan for 24 hours. About 12 motorcycles were given citation tickets on the same day.

Abude said CTTMB has yet to approve the proposal for the expanded pay parking in Bankerohan due to a lack of figures on the total number of pay-parking slots. The board will craft the resolution to be presented to the city council to amend the parking fee ordinance.
