Illegal lumber worth P160-K seized at Lasang checkpoint

MORE THAN P100,000 worth of illegal lumbers were seized from a truck convoy at the police and military checkpoint in Barangay Lasang, Bunawan District, on Thursday, Jan. 19.

Capt. John Louie Dema-ala, spokesperson of Task Force Davao, said authorities flagged down the convoy of vehicles driven by Ryan Chavez Arat, 39, married, and Roy Deb Labajo Martir, 37, married, both residents of Purok 3, Barangay Florida, Kapalong, Davao Del Norte.

The two trucks were enroute to Davao City when apprehended by the joint personnel of the Task Force Davao, Davao City Police Office, and City Environment and Natural Resources Office.

Intercepted inside a blue Isuzu Elf truck (temporary plate number 1201- 67943) and a white Wing Van Truck (bearing plate number CCN 4154) were more or less 5,307 board feet of lumbers with an estimated worth of P159,210.

The two drivers and the contraband are now under the custody of the Bunawan Police Station.
