Hospitals to participate in CDRRMO emergency drills

The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) will spearhead the 3rd City Wide Shakeout Drill on July 26, 2019, putting more focus on hospital rescue.

CDRRMO chief Alfredo Baloran said that aside from the earthquake and tsunami drills, they have accepted the proposal of the San Pedro Hospital for a collaboration on the planned fire drill.

“We will also have fire drill because the San Pedro Hospital offered that they will also conduct fire drill. We will expect many happenings in this year’s shakeout drill,” Baloran said.

Baloran said major hospitals in the city have also pledged their participation. “We will involve hospitals in this shakeout drills. We will bring patients from the scenarios we will create to these hospitals,” Baloran said.

He added that they will create scenarios and bring patients depending on what is the nearest and the most favorable hospital.

“We will reenact a collapsed building. We will not yet announce what building this will be but all the patients from there will be brought to the nearest hospitals,” Baloran said.

Baloran added that all emergency volunteers, including barangay disaster teams. have pledged their involvement in the drill. The incident command post (ICP) will be set up at the Crocodile Park.

“We will put up the ICP where the responsible officer will be stationed. In this case, it is the City Mayor, Sara Duterte or whoever she will designate. We will also establish the incident operation center (IOC) there,” Baloran said.

According to Baloran, the IOC will be the location of all local government offices. “The department heads will be located at the IOC to receive reports from the ground but their responders will be on the ground,” he said.

Baloran called on the communities, establishments, and schools to participate in the city-wide shakeout drill.
“Our main goal for this activity is to develop disaster resilience to all citizens of Davao City,” Baloran said.

Apart from the shakeout drill, the CDRRMO also laid down various activities in line with the National Disaster Resilience Month 2019.

Volunteers, BDRRMC’s, responders, and CDRRMO staff conducted a mangrove planting and coastal cleanup activity at Purok 22, Sitio Malambuon, Barangay 76-A Bucana, yesterday, July 9. On July 31, a tree-planting activity will be spearheaded by the CDRRM council in Barangay Eden, Toril District as the culmination program.
