HONORING MY MOTHER | The Viral man

FOR THOSE  who have seen The Matrix, who can forget this immortal statement of Agent Smith to Neo:

“I’d like to share a revelation that I’ve had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you’re not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not.

You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area.

There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You’re a plague…”

Such a grim and cringy assessment about us, don’t you think? Still, it is nevertheless an honest outtake, and grudgingly devoid of falsehood, once thought over without our pink lenses. Yes, let’s just set aside that goody-goody feel for a while and admit that we really have, for most part of our waking lives, become so accustomed to the dark, seeing images finally, while our heads are still buried in the sand.

As life iIlusions abound in that dark space, I am again reminded of a teen I once saw at the mall entertainment center, wearing a 3-D helmet, trashing and fending off unseen alien enemies, oblivious to everyone, while safely buckled to an old pilot seat. Generally, that’s us folkies.

By the way, I’ve gotten a little flak on that anti-vaxx article I have written a few days back, and all I can say is, thank you very much for that wonderful comment. It is only natural that we all brush each other wrongly one way or another, whether we like it or not. But the thing is, we all have a choice, either accept the fact that we are all dissimilar in the way we are wired, or hate all that diversity and only opt to stick to our little comfort yes-group or clique.

I mean, I’m not about to go all out and say I’m celebrating our differences, yet I can assure you that I respect them and if need be, defend your freedom to be anti-whatever. The only concession is, I request that you heed Fleetwood Mac’s “Go your own way” and not bring others with you. Also respect that they have their own views. If, for anything else, you could say I’m just letting sleeping dogs lie. (And in a far distant similar vein, liars go to hell.)

In a day or so, I will have finally driven up that famous road of song-and-dance, Route 66, and you could say, that may as well be affirmation enough that all is well. However grim this general page setup has become for most of us, bite them lips and murmur “It’s still a beautiful world.” For my part, i’m singing Dylan’s mantra-like lyrics,

“Oh but I was so much older then,
I’m younger than that now.”
