Heartwarming initiative brings clear vision and hope to Iligan City Jail

ILIGAN CITY – In a touching display of compassion and community spirit, the Iligan City Jail-Male Dormitory (ICJMD) has recently witnessed a heartwarming initiative that has significantly improved the lives of its residents.

The St. Mother Teresa Ministry of the Sick and the Isaiah 61:11 Prison Ministry of the Couples for Christ-Lanao del Norte, donated eyeglasses, bringing clear vision to 113 Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) and enhancing their quality of life.

The eye care mission has not only provided much-needed visual aid but has also uplifted the spirits of the PDL.

“This initiative has truly made a difference in the lives of our PDL,” said city jail warden JCI Carlo F. Obrique. “The generosity and kindness shown by the Couples for Christ and our dedicated volunteers have brought hope and improved the well-being of many. It is a testament to the positive impact that collective efforts can have on our community.”

In addition to the eyeglasses, the entire jail population, which numbers around 600 PDL, benefitted from the distribution of hygiene kits and food packs. These essential supplies have addressed immediate needs and fostered a sense of community and care within the facility.

A eucharistic mass celebrated by Rev. Fr. Rodolfo Encabo of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Iligan preceded the activity.

Such initiatives highlight the power of kindness and the positive impact of collective efforts in making a difference in the lives of those in need. The ICJMD’s recent activities serve as a reminder that even in challenging circumstances, compassion and solidarity can bring about meaningful change.
