HCDC to exhibit Davao City’s history

By Gio J. Tanudtanud

THE HOLY Cross of Davao College will present the “Magsturya Ta! Davao Unbound: The Remarkable Tale of the First City of Southern Mindanao” on March 9 to promote Davao City’s history over the years.

On Wednesday’s media forum at the Habi at Kape in Abreeza Ayala Malls, Rhys Lloyd Lacia, HCDC Institute of Davao Studies focal person, said they will conduct an academic forum, photo exhibit, and history talk in celebration of Araw ng Dabaw.

The event will trace Davao City’s progress from its humble beginnings and journey over the years to become one of the most highly urbanized cities in the Philippines.

Rhys Lloyd Lacia added the event will feature resource speakers like Dr. Patricia Dacudao from Ateneo de Manila University, Antonio Figueroa, and Randy Tubo of Museo Dabawenyo.

In addition to the forum, the launching of the book “Streets of Davao City” by Antonio Figueroa, published by the HCDC, will be featured. The book is about the history of the major streets of Davao City like San Pedro, Uyanguren, and Claveria.

HCDC partnered with the Davao Historical Society headed by Amalia Bandiola Cabusao and Patmei Bello Ruivivar for the forum.

Lacia invited everyone to visit the free exhibit to develop a greater appreciation of local history and heritage, and for the youth to know more about the local history.

“It’s our advocacy and commitment also to spread this historical knowledge to the people of Davao so that we will continue to strengthen the Davaoeño identity in the years to come,” he said.

The venue will only seat 150 people, so reservations are a must. The event will also be live-streamed on their official Facebook page for those who cannot attend.

The forum will be on Mar 9 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the 7th Floor Multi-Purpose Hall Holy Cross of Davao College. The registration will be at 8 a.m. on the ground floor main entrance lobby of HCDC.
