THE city government has found it difficult to convince both the parents and those in the five to 11 age bracket to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
Dr. Michelle Schlosser, COVID-19 Task Force spokesperson, said that this is the age bracket that has turned out to be challenging in terms of the rollout of the vaccination program.
Schlosser appealed to parents of these children to have them vaccinated because this is part of protecting them from the virus and they might also become the spreaders of the virus.
“Help prevent your loved ones from dying because of COVID-19. Emphasize gihapon nato ang pag-wear og face mask. If you can teach your children to wear their face masks every single time nga naa sila sa school. Pagpabakuna pud sa ilaha kay we don’t want them to suffer from the severity of the disease kung ma-infect sila,” she said.
Schlosser made the call as the city government is intensifying vaccination of students as the eventual holding of the face-to-face classes is approaching.
“We are intensifying the school-based vaccination pero ang atong dilemma sa atong vaccination team if dili mu-avail ang mga parents. At the end of the day, dili mahitabo ang bakuna kung wala’y consent sa parents,” she said, adding that school personnel and the students should adhere to the minimum public health standards to curb the spread of the virus.
Personnel from the safety and security cluster, she said, are strictly monitoring the wearing of masks in the classrooms as she urged parents to remind their children to also follow the health protocols inside and outside of their classrooms.
