Authorities have already arrested 124 individuals who allegedly violated the election gun ban.
Since the start of the gun ban on Jan. 13, police and election officials already confiscated 80 small arms and light weapon, 35 improvised weapons, 26 explosives and 1,243 ammunitions.
Chief Insp. Jason Baria, the spokesperson of Police Regional Office 11, said they seized 61 handguns (pistols and revolvers) and 19 long arms (rifles and shotguns).
The 35 improvised weapons include homemade guns.
Baria said they also seized 16 improvised explosive devices and 10 grenades.
They also confiscated 32 bladed weapons.
PRO 11 Director Chief Supt. Marcelo Morales said the violators were arrested through search warrants, checkpoint operations, buy bust and police response.
Morales said the number of arrest will further rise with the “relentless” implementation of Oplan Dabaw Kalinaw, intensified PNP-Comelec checkpoint/chokepoint operations, police visibility and other continuous focused police operations.
On the start of gun ban in relation to the mid-term elections, Morales ordered his men to conduct checkpoint.
The carrying of firearms and other deadly weapons outside their houses is prohibited until June 12, 2019.
Among those arrested was Levy Joe Lumando, a town councilor of Manay, Davao Oriental. Among the items recovered from his possession were sachets of shabu, rifle grenade, hand grenade, a .45 caliber gun, short magazines, and several live ammunitions.
