Green category

  • No election areas of concern in Davao Region

AUTHORITIES said there were no areas of concern in the Davao Region for the May 2025 Local and National Elections.

Speaking on Monday’s Kapehan sa Dabaw at SM Ecoland, Major Catherine Dela Rey, the spokesperson of Police Regional Office XI, said the region is under the “green” level on the Comelec category.

“Green means there are no areas of concern and no election-related violence. Still, we are not complacent in that we are also monitoring the candidates, to have free, honest, and peaceful elections,” Dela Rey said.

Comelec resolution No. 11067 states that the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) classify all areas in the country under four categories: green, yellow, orange, and red.

Areas under the green category are areas with no security concerns or are relatively peaceful and orderly for the conduct of elections.

Yellow areas have reported suspected election-related incidents in the past two polls, provided there was no participation of domestic terror groups. The areas should also be previously declared under Comelec control and report the possible presence of armed groups and intense political rivalries.

Orange areas should have the combination of two or more factors under the yellow category and should have serious armed threats posed by communist terror groups (CTGs) or other threat groups.

Meanwhile, red areas meet the parameters for yellow and have serious threats posed by CTGs or other threat groups.

“Just in case naay ma declare na areas of concern mas baga atong deployment didto nga area,” She added.

Dela Rey said they are tasked to secure 6,000 covered voting centers, treasurer offices, hubs, and the Comelec office, and if there are areas of concern, they will add for those areas. Each voting center will have a minimum of two police personnel.

Major Ruben Gadut, the 10th Infantry Division Public Affairs Office chief, assured that the communist rebels won’t hamper the elections. He also said no politicians have reported receiving threats so far, so they did not have to deploy anyone for security detail.

Meanwhile, Gay Enumberables, the assistant regional director said the Comelec XI is prepared for the coming local and national elections.

‘Actually, we are prepared all the time but we are still in the preparation process may machines na hindi pa makuha although may mga election paraphernalia na dumating but basically, we are at the timeline we are updated on that,” Enumerables said.

She said that they expect peaceful elections in Davao. “Hapsay bya sya from the filing of COC (certificate of candidacy) and were hoping it until na padulungay mugawas ang result sa election,” she added.
