Davao City – Leaning on their vast hardcourt experience, the GJAPS Pirates crown themselves as this year’s Uraya Fortys Basketball Club champions at the expense of the SMB Pombo/Tonzo Express, 90-81 Sunday (September 29) at the Uraya basketball court.
Ching Garcia emerged as the finals Most Valuable Player scoring 28 points leading the Japs Sabio-managed GJAPS Pirates another title this year. Sabio who is also an active player on the team bagged the Season MVP trophy after a consistent 30-point output during the elimination round.
Sabio noted on his off guard position was also named to the Mythical Five selection joining Ronny Millomeda (point guard), Roy Ociones (power forward), Harold Malabosa (small forward) and Opling Ayunan (center).
Jake Luga was named best defensive player of the tournament while Efren Hingpit and Glen Lorejo bagged the sportsmanship and most improve player awards, respectively.
