Gingoog transports 2 bodies of NPA rebels killed in clash

THE GINGOOG City government facilitated the transport and proper disposition of the cadavers of two slain members of the New People’s Army killed in an encounter with soldiers of the 58th Infantry Battalion on Aug. 12, 2022.

The military identified the two slain rebels as Lita Ayuma Sereno and Loui Tayoy Sereno, both from Sub-Regional Command (SRC1), North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC).

The bodies underwent postmortem investigation conducted by the Scene of the Crime Operatives Gingoog City Police Station and the City Health Unit before the turnover to the immediate families.

“Yet again, lives were lost in the war against the communist terrorist group,” said Lt. Col. Ricky L. Canatoy, commanding officer of the 58th Infantry Battalion.

“I am urging all NPA members who are still hiding in the hinterlands to come down in peace, lay down their arms, and return to the folds of the law while time and opportunity still exist. Put an end to this way of life: endless suffering in vain, with little regard for your own or others’ lives. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family,” he said.

The bodies are currently at the St. Peter Funeral Home, Gingoog City while waiting for their immediate families for a proper burial ceremony.
