Gabriela holds lightning rally on Martial Law anniversary

MORE OR LESS 40 individuals staged a protest rally in commemoration of the 51st anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law on Thursday morning, Sept. 21, at Freedom Park along Roxas Avenue.

San Pedro Police Station chief Major Marvin Hugos said the rallyists were members of Gabriela Youth-Southern Mindanao Region led by Irish Natinga and Gabriela Davao spokesperson Cora Espinosa.

Accordingly, the protest aims to call out the Martial law-related injustices, accountability, and unresolved human rights issues during the dictatorship of former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.

Moreover, the protesters are also calling on the present administration to junk the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020 or the “Terror Law,” confidential funds of Vice President Sara Duterte, and Education Secretary Sara Duterte, and the alleged “worsening state” of human rights in the country.

But, Hugos said the rally was peaceful with no violent activities conducted.

The San Pedro police deployed personnel to ensure that no major incidents or violence would occur.
