Freeze: On fasting

In the Philippines, fasting and abstinence remain obligatory for Roman Catholics on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. The law of fasting prescribes that only one full meal a day is taken.  Two lighter meals are permitted to maintain strength according to each one’s needs.  Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids, including milk and fruit juices, are allowed.

In an interview with Mike Enriquez of GMA News TV yesterday morning, Father Aris Sison of the Saint John Paul the II Parish in Quezon City said fasting may not necessarily all about food. Sison read from his smartphone Pope Francis’s words on fasting.

Pope Francis
Fast from worries and trust in God
Fast from complaints and contemplate simplicity
Fast from pressures and be prayerful
Fast from bitterness and fill your heart with joy
Fast from words and be silent so you can listen
Fast from pessimism and be filled with hope
Fast from anger and be filled with patience
Fast from sadness and be filled with gratitude
Fast from hurting words and say kind words
