Frantic search

  • 19-year-old who went swimming amid huge waves still missing

A 13-YEAR-OLD student drowned at Mergrande Beach Resort, around 3:40 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 3. Meanwhile, a search operation is still ongoing at Davao Gulf for his missing 19-year-old companion.

Captain Hazel Tuazon, spokesperson of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), identified them as Harvey Prince Momo, 13, student, and Jhon Alfredo Amalias, 19, single, who works at NNC air conditioner. Both boys are residents of Mega Homes, Barangay Bago Aplaya.

Initial investigation showed that at about 2:40 p.m. on Sunday, their friends were instructed to call the two boys for a snack.

However, they saw the two boys washed by the tide further away from the shore. They also noticed the huge waves and strong winds, prompting them to call for rescue.

The resort’s lifeguards went after the two but they were unable to emerge.

Later, Momo’s body was recovered by the Bantay Dagat volunteers and brought to the Adventist Hospital to save the boy. But it was already too late.
