Fire on old mall grocery store causes P150-K damage

A FIRE hit the grocery area of NCCC’s main building along Ramon Magsaysay Street at around 9 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 5, causing P150,000 in damage.

Fire Senior Officer 4 Ramil Gillado, Davao City Fire District station, told TIMES in an interview on Friday that the fire started at the fresh department, grocery area of NCCC.

A statement from NCCC said, “This Thursday evening around 9pm, an incident occurred at the fresh section of NCCC Supermarket Main Magsaysay. NCCC Associates and the Emergency team immediately responded.”

“No customers were on premise at that time and all workers are safe,” it said.

The minor fire incident was under control 20 minutes later. They declared a fire out at 10:17 p.m.

“A fireout was declared by the BFP soon thereafter. An investigation is currently conducted to determine the cause of the incident and extent of damage,” the statement added.

Initially, the cause was electrical in nature although Gillado said, “We can’t establish yet if it’s due to short circuit, loose connection, or overload.”
