- 13 rooms of the 2-story government building sustain total damage
A FIRE caused an estimated P3 million in damage as it gobbled F. Bustamante National High School, Tibungco, at 3:36 p.m. on Sunday, Jan.14.
According to the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) report, the fire razed the two-story building, including its 14 rooms, with nine totally damaged and one partially damaged.
Immediately firefighters and volunteers went to the area to put out the fire. The alarm reached the second level, which meant that it required more than one firetruck to contain.
The report said it took over two hours for the firefighters to control the flames. Firefighters declared a fire-out at 5:29 p.m.
Fortunately, no houses were involved despite the school being located near a residential area.
As of this writing, the investigation into the cause of the fire firefighters was still ongoing.
Last year, at least three state-owned schools were damaged by fire, the most recent was on Nov. 5 when the three-room building of Sirawan National High School was razed at Purok 11, Barangay Sirawan, Toril District.
In terms of amount, however, a comparable incident was the fire that damaged the two-story educational building of Bernardo Carpio National High School in Pioneer Village, Buhangin in May last year. That incident also caused P3 million in damage.
