Fatal decision

  • 3 students drown after skipping classes to swim

THREE young students drowned at Liloan Riverside, Purok Sunflower, in Mandug, around 5 p.m. on Friday, November 24.

Unfortunately, the students reportedly skipped their classes to go swimming in the river.

Police identified them as Takie Sanico, 13, a resident of Dingan, Buhangin; Jerick Redulla, 12, a resident of Sto. Ñino Hillside, Hillside Tigatto; and Kian Bituin, 12, and a resident of Km. 8 Diversion Road, Diho Cabantian.

According to the Investigation, one of the students told police that they agreed to play hooky instead of attending their classes at Buhangin Central Elementary School Sped Center.

However, at the last second, he decided to simply watch four of his friends rather than go with them, especially after noticing the strong current. In the middle of their fun, they were washed away by the river and could no longer swim to safety.

Luckily, one student managed to save himself while the three were swallowed by the river.

The Barangay Mandug rescue team, the 911 Urban Search and Rescue team, and the 911 ambulance responded to the scene after receiving the distress call. They recovered the three students but could not revive them.

Their remains were brought to M. Deang Funeral Services in Sto. Ñino, Mandug.
