  • Father, toddler killed when their motorbike slammed into a Bachelor bus

A TRAGIC road crash between a motorcycle and a bus claimed the lives of a 2-year-old girl and her father in Davao City on Saturday, June 1.

According to a report from Ma-a Police Station, 45-year-old Randy Bernabe Sudlay was driving his motorcycle northbound along the Carlos P. Garcia Highway at around 4:35 a.m. He had Athena Sudlay and her mother, Cheery Mae Guyo Tinapay, 36, as passengers.

As they approached crossing bypass road in Barangay Ma-a, their motorcycle collided with the front bumper of a northbound Bachelor Express bus attempting to enter the same lane.

Barangay Ma-a and Barangay 19-b rescue teams arrived and transported the victims to the hospital but both victims were declared dead on arrival. The mother survived and is currently recovering.

The bus driver, 54-year-old Wilson Mainit Mahilum, a resident of Purok Okra, Gredu, Panabo City, Davao Del Norte, is in custody at the Ma-a police station as an investigation into the accident continues.

Meanwhile, a bus owned by Pastor Apollo Quiboloy of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ crashed into a house in Purok 10-B, Barangay Los Amigos, Tugbok District on the same day.

According to the report from the Los Amigos Police Station, the bus driven by 63-year-old John Ayo Berrano from Km. 5, Buhangin, Davao City, was allegedly traveling to Calinan Proper when the incident occurred around 6 a.m.

Police suspect the driver might have fallen asleep at the wheel. Fortunately, he survived the incident without any major injuries.

The bus reportedly veered off course, first colliding with the house wall and then a parked pickup truck. The front of the bus was also heavily damaged in the crash.

The bus and the driver are currently in police custody.
