Cop dies, 3 others hurt in vehicular accident

A MEMBER of the Philippine National Police-Special Weapons and Tactics Team assigned at the Davao del Norte Provincial Police Office died when the motorcycle he was driving as well as another motorcycle were involved in an accident along Purok 9, Poblacion, Maco, Davao de Oro at dawn of October 31.

The report said three others were also injured as a result of the accident.

The police blotter identified the dead cop as Patrolman Kimo Brandido Villa, legal age, married, and a resident of Apokon Tagum City.

The report said Villa, on board his motorcycle that did not have a plate number, was on his way to Tagum City from Pantukan also in Davao de Oro, while Winston Asilum, 24, was also riding his motorcycle coming from the opposite side of the road on his way to a village in Maco. Both motorcycles had passengers with a certain Irene Rose E Carulio was riding with Villa while Jonathan Gerigdig, 38, was Asilum’s passenger.

Upon reaching the place of the accident as Asilum’s motorcycle was crossing the road, Villa’s motorcycle accidentally hit the left side of the other motorcycle that led to the crash, through the passengers into the concrete pavement.

Rescuers immediately brought the victims to the Pantukan District Hospital, but Villa was declared dead about an hour after the accidents.

Investigators were still finalizing the report as well as the action to be taken as of presstime.
