Enhanced water supply for business growth
With the official commercial operations of the Davao City Bulk Water Project last February 2024, water challenges are now being addressed. Research conducted by Ateneo de Davao University on the Lived Experiences of Water Consumers in District 2 shows findings of major improvements in water availability and reliability, especially among local businesses.
A carenderia owner from Indangan shared her experience, reflecting the challenges faced by local business owners in the area. “Sauna kinahanglan pa mi magpa-awas ug tubig mga 30 mins, maong dako gyud among bill– pero sacrifice lang gyud kay dili man pud pwede nga dili namo i-drain, kinahanglan nga matin-aw sa ang tubig saka namo gamiton. Dako gyud ug consume sa tubig sauna musaka ug 4,000 pesos diri ra sa karenderya. I-konsider na lang gyud namo na kay kada-adlaw man pud namo gamiton ang tubig (Before, we still need to drain the water for about 30 minutes, which is why our bill is quite high— but it’s a sacrifice because we can’t just leave it, the water needs to be clear before we use it. The water consumption alone can go up to 4,000 pesos just here at the eatery. We just have to consider it since we use the water every day),” she explained. “Now, our bill averages 2,400 pesos.”
By ensuring a stable water supply, DCBWSP not only enhances daily operations but also supports the broader economic development of the city.

DCBWSP represents a significant investment in the water sector, developed under a joint venture between DCWD and Apo Agua Infrastructura, Inc. (Apo Agua). This project aligns with findings from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which stressed that sustainable water infrastructure is critical to economic resilience and urban development.
