Eleven dead

THE TAGUM City Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (CESU) registered 2,302 dengue cases with 11 fatalities as of Nov. 30. The number of incidents was 84% higher than the 1,238 recorded in the same period last year.

The CESU report showed nine additional new cases from Nov. 24 to 30 with a 5-year-old girl from Barangay Magugpo Poblacion as the latest fatality.

As to the latest data, Barangay Visayan Village topped the number of cases with 368, followed by Apokon with 289, Mankilam (279), La Filipina (187), Madaum (181), San Miguel (128), and Magdum (105).

Nine deaths involved patients aged from two to nine years old, followed by one 13 years old, and one 54-year-old.

Tagum City officials urged the public to practice the 5S Kontra Dengue campaign:  search and destroy breeding sites; seek medical assistance as soon as possible; self-protective measures (such as using mosquito repellants), support fogging and misting to avoid outbreaks, and sustain hydration.

Tagum lawmakers passed a resolution placing the city under a state of calamity on Nov. 21, 2023, but have yet to lift it due to increasing dengue cases.
