ECT payout in Davao de Oro rolls out on April 22: DSWD XI

AFFECTED residents from the shear line and trough of the low-pressure area in Davao de Oro will receive their emergency cash transfer (ECT) starting on April 22.

Kris Sam Torralba, Disaster Response Management System section chief. said they would cater to the first batch on the master list.

One in every family, preferably the head of the family, will receive cash assistance amounting to  P9,960 each.

The beneficiaries for the first batch in Davao de Oro are 22,632, out of the total target beneficiaries of 200,000.

The cash assistance is equivalent to 75% of the current minimum wage rate in the region for 30 days.

The municipal/ city social welfare and development office will prepare the list, to be noted by the municipal/city disaster risk reduction and management office, and then signed by the municipal and city mayor to verify the master list.

Torralba said if the enlisted beneficiary is unavailable during the payout, representatives of the family member are allowed to claim provided there is authorization from the beneficiary.

The official added the target payout site on April 22 will be in Maco, Davao de Oro.

ECT is the new program of DSWD aiming to bridge the gap between the response phase to the recovery and rehabilitation phase of disaster-stricken communities.

Davao de Oro is the third province to receive the ECT while Davao del Norte and Davao Oriental started to receive the ECT in February.

Torralba reported about a 68% completion rate of ECT payout in the two provinces.

A total of 65,605 beneficiaries of Davao del Norte out of 70,000 target beneficiaries which is equivalent to 93.72% received the assistance.

Meanwhile, the department reported 22.45% completion for Davao Oriental payout as only 30,723 out of the target 136,860 were provided.

DSWD XI regional director Vanessa Goc-long attributed the delay of the payout to internal challenges such as the unavailability of the personnel, and the absence of an activation order from the central office.

Goc-ong added some municipalities from Davao Oriental that were seriously affected will receive ECT equivalent for 60 days.
