THE EASTERN Mindanao Command (EastMinCom) marked National Human Rights Consciousness Week with a flag-raising ceremony at Naval Station Felix Apolinario in Davao City on Dec. 2.
The event, led by Commodore Constancio Arturo M. Reyes PN, underscored the theme “Empowering Humanity: Upholding Dignity, Protecting Rights, and Promoting Peace,” with a renewed commitment to uphold International Humanitarian Law and human rights.
Reyes led the activity on behalf of EastMinCom commander LtGen. Luis Rex D. Bergante, alongside the officers, enlisted personnel, and civilian human resources of EastMinCom, NFEM, and other units.
During the event, the troops renewed their commitment to upholding International Humanitarian Law (IHL) by pronouncing the “Panata sa Karapatang Pantao.”
Reyes also read the message of General Romeo S. Brawner Jr., Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), emphasizing this year’s theme: Upholding Dignity, Protecting Rights, and Promoting Peace.
He highlighted that human rights are not a privilege granted by authority or conditions but are inherent, unchanging, and universally shared by all.
“The Armed Forces of the Philippines has made significant strides in integrating human rights into the heart and core of our policies and operations. Through our community engagements, education programs, and human rights training, we continue to demonstrate that protecting human dignity is not separate from our mission — it is central to it.
As we continue to serve, may we do so with unyielding integrity, deep compassion, and resolute dedication to the cause of peace, justice, and human dignity,” Brawner said in his message.
