Eastern Mindanao Command awards posthumous honor to key peace advocate

THE EASTERN Mindanao Command (EastMinCom) posthumously awarded the Gawad sa Kaunlaran to Sebastian L. Angliongto on Tuesday, July 30, recognizing his exceptional contributions as Chairperson of the EastMinCom Multi-Sector Governance Council (MSGC).

Angliongto played a pivotal role in EastMinCom’s organizational transformation, providing technological and scientific advice and enhancing its approach to peace, security, and development.

His leadership during the 2017 Martial Law implementation ensured cultural sensitivity, and he secured resources for disaster response efforts following the 2019 earthquakes and the 2020 pandemic.

These efforts significantly contributed to the declaration of areas in Eastern Mindanao as Insurgency Free in 2022.

Colonel Jorry Baclor, chief of Unified Command Staff, delivered a message on behalf of EastMinCom Commander Lt. Gen. Rex Luis Bergante, expressing condolences to Angliongto’s family and highlighting his nine years of partnership with the command.

“Sir Angie will have his place in the history of EastMinCom being the first chairperson of the council,” Baclor stated.

“His dedication to duty reflects the hero in him, worth emulating,” he added.

Baclor emphasized Angliongto’s invaluable contributions to peace initiatives in the region and how his wisdom will continue to guide their journey toward healing and reconciliation.

“Let the hero within Sir Angie inspire everyone to be their hero in their rhyme and bring unity among us, peace, and security to our communities,” Baclor concluded.
