
THE DEPARTMENT of Trade and Industry (DTI) XI logged a 100% resolution rate for consumer complaints as of April 2025.
Of the total 91 complaints received from across the region, 20 cases, or 22%, were related to liability for products and services, topping the list.
It is followed by deceptive, unfair, and unconscionable sales acts or practices with 19 cases or 21%, and consumer product and service warranties with 10 cases or 15%.
Non-issuance/MC Contract/OR-CR/ Similar Chassis logged eight complaints and five each for consumer product quality and safety, and business-to-business transaction (non-consumer product).
DTI reported that 57% of these complaints were filed by walk-in clients, while the remaining 42% were submitted online through email and the DTI 11’s official Facebook pages, and 1% were endorsed to other agencies.
Out of 91, 35 of the complaints were resolved through mediation within an average of 6.9 working days. Of the mediated cases, 21 successfully resulted in mediation agreements, while 14 cases were issued a certificate to file action.
The cases related to receptive, unfair and unconscionable sales acts or practices, liability for products and services, and consumer product and service warranties were addressed through mediation.
Meanwhile, seven consumer complaints were resolved through adjudication within 20 working days, where six cases, or 86%, were granted, and one case was dismissed.
DTI 11 also conducts monitoring and enforcement of Fair Trade Laws to safeguard consumers against trade malpractices and from substandard and hazardous products.
According to the latest monitoring report, 1,312 firms were monitored with 100% compliance under the Fair Trade Laws.
This also includes the Price Monitoring on Basic Necessities & Prime Commodities, where a total of 173 firms logged a 100% compliance rate.
DTI also lauds the best-performing establishments through their conferment of Bagwis Awards.
Rachel Remitio, DTI XI acting assistant regional director, said this is to recognize these awardees in upholding consumer welfare and protection.
DTI has conferred Bagwis Awards to 51 establishments across the Davao Region in a ceremonial event on April 10 at the Pinnacle Hotel and Suites in Davao City.
