THREE weeks before the school year 2024-2025, the Department of Trade and Industry released a price guide for consumers buying school supplies on Wednesday, July 3.
The guide included brand and specifications, type of paper for notebooks; pad papers from grades 1-4, intermediate; pencils; ballpoint pens; erasers; sharpener, and rulers.
In this year’s price guide, an 80-leaf notebook costs from P11.80-P52, depending on the design: writing, composition, spiral, and yarn.
For grades 1-4 pad paper ranges from P9.50-P61, while Intermediate pad paper costs P13.80 – P48.75.
The price of pencils ranges from P11-P33, while ballpoint pens are sold at P3-P21 (per piece) and P8-P33 (per pack).
A box of crayons with eight colors is P12.00 (regular) – P65.00 (jumbo), while a crayon pack of 12 colors is P32; 16 colors is P24 – P83; and P34-P114 for 24-color crayon pack.
Meanwhile, a sharpener is at P15-P69; rulers P16-P29, and erasers P4.50 to P20.
DTI advised the public to check the labels of the school supplies including the brand name and trademark, classification, and manufacturer aside from the number of pages and type of paper.
For crayons, consumers are told to check the “non-toxic” label in boxes to ensure the product passes the allowed toxicity level as per the Food and Drugs Administration.
The enrollment period kicked off on Wednesday, July 3, and will last until July 26 per Department of Education Memo 32 s. 2024 signed by DepEd Undersecretary Nolasco Mempin.
All classes in public elementary and secondary levels will begin on July 29, 2024, and end on April 15, 2025.
