DTCF to host fruits and vegetable fair

THE DAVAO Food Terminal Complex will conduct the Fruits & Vegetables Trade Fair at the Davao Food Terminal Complex (DFTC) to help small and local farmers.

During the iSpeak media forum at City Hall on May 9,  DFTC head Josephine Martin said they wanted to support the farmers due to the challenges in sustaining food supply and the high market price.

To achieve food and value chain sustainability, Martin said they would help farmers learn synchronized planting or clusterized farming to meet market demands. It will also help farmers know the volume and commodity type to regulate the delivery and supplies to the market.

Martin said the event will also teach farmers about good agricultural practices like food security and safety.

“So yun ang mga features na gusto namin ma unique sa DFTC from the other competition markets,” she said.

Martin also hopes to make the food terminal fully functional and operational with plans to expand its reach to other provinces. She also said they are making efforts to offer services for businesses and food storage facilities for excess supplies.

“We are really trying our best to help the farmers at the same time make the facility useful to the public,” she said.

The trade fair is scheduled on May 13-17 and open for the public, with activities such as seminars on food safety and packaging of fruits and vegetables, a fruit and vegetable processing demonstration, and a forum on agribusiness.
