DSWD XI highlights gender equality programs on Women’s Month

BY GIO TANUDTANUD

THE DEPARTMENT of Social Welfare and Development XI will promote gender equality programs and services, particularly for Women’s Month in March.

During the Kapehan sa Dabaw in SM Ecoland on Mar. 11, Sherlyn S. Concubierta, Social Welfare Officer II of the Protective Services Division, said the programs and services meant to address the rising number of gender-based violence are not only designed for women.

The programs and services include the Assistance to Individuals Crisis Situation (AICS), psychosocial counseling, and referrals, depending on the needs of the clients. For instance, the AICS gives clients the financial means to file cases against their perpetrators.

Concubierta said their office recorded 55 physical abuse cases, 20 sexual abuse incidents, 49 economic abuse cases, and 50 victims of emotional or psychological abuse in 2023. Nevertheless, she saw it as proof their advocacy campaigns are working since more women are coming forward to fight for their rights.

Nag raise na gyud ang voice sa atong mga women and not only the women but also the other nga mga gender po,” she said.

Concubierta also urged victims to report their complaints to the DSWD XI, the nearest barangay, or the Women’s and Children’s Desk at the police station.
