  • Police seize P22-M worth of shabu, marijuana in May

THE DAVAO Police Regional Office seized and recovered P22 million worth of illegal drugs in a series of intensified operations for the month of May 2024.

PRO XI spokesperson Major Catherine Dela Rey said law enforcers conducted 312 operations in the different areas of the region last month.

The anti-illegal drug operations led to the arrest of 382 individuals and the confiscation of 3250.9987 grams of shabu, 1066.86 grams of marijuana leaves, and six marijuana plants.

“The PRO is continuously conducting anti-illegal drugs operations along with other police operations aiming for a more peaceful and safe community,” the police regional office statement said.

In April, the regional police had an even bigger haul when it confiscated more than P8 million in shabu and marijuana in just a span of a week.

In Davao City, the campaign against illegal drugs already caused controversy when 35 personnel, including the city police director, were administratively relieved in connection to the deaths of suspects in various operations.

Mayor Sebastian Duterte slammed the PNP leadership for ordering their relief, which he described as an “abuse of authority.” However, he issued a warning that the war on drugs will continue.
