Drowning prompts Coast Guard plea for beach safety

THE COAST Guard District Southeastern Mindanao (CGDSEM) urged beachgoers to follow safety restrictions after an 18-year-old man drowned while swimming at Menzi Beach, Barangay Dahican, Mati City, Davao Oriental on Saturday morning, April 6.

According to CGDSEM Chief-of-Staff Lt Commander Angela Tobias, the victim and his friends were warned that strong currents made swimming dangerous that day. However, they disregarded the warnings.

“This tragic incident underscores the importance of following beach restrictions,” said Tobias. “These measures are put in place to ensure the safety of swimmers,” she added.

Tobias did not specify the exact restrictions in place at Menzi Beach.
