Driver detained

THE DRIVER of a commuter multicab is currently detained after a collision with another jitney injured 23 passengers and the other driver in front of West Insular, Lanang, on Thursday, April 17.

Captain Hazel Tuazon, spokesperson of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), identified the driver as Rico Amate Cabaluna, 38, of Caloocan City.

“He is being held while awaiting the decision of the victims on whether or not to file a case,” Tuazon said.

According to the report, the collision occurred at approximately 12:20 p.m. along the southbound lane of Daang Maharlika Highway in Barangay Vicente Hizon Sr., Lanang.

Initial investigation by authorities revealed that both vehicles were heading south when, suddenly, Cabaluna veered to the right to drop off a passenger.

As a result, the trailing PUJ, driven by Jonel Limentang Andaya, 24, of Davao del Norte, struck the rear left side of Cabaluna’s multicab.

The impact caused damage to both vehicles.

All 23 passengers from both vehicles, along with Andaya, were transported to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) for medical treatment.

The names of the injured passengers are expected to be released following proper notification.

Tuazon said the incident serves as a reminder to all motorists to be careful and obey traffic regulations to ensure the safety of road users and passengers.
