THE DEPARTMENT of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) is trying to meet the demand of the Information Technology and Business Process Management (IT-BPM) industry in the Davao region.
During the Kapihan forum on June 24, Engr. Albert Gabriel, DICT information technology officer, said they continuously conduct advocacy programs, conferences, and summits to intensify further and encourage the public in the hopes of doubling the total IT-BPM workforce.
“We do have shortages because the demand of customers and partners overseas is also expanding, as they know that Filipino workers in this industry have a high-quality work performance,” Gabriel said.
According to the ICT Industry Roadmap last year, approximately 75,000 workers are working in the ICT sector in Davao Region, and about 25,000 are under the IT-BPM workforce.
Gabriel stressed that the demand for the workforce for the IT-BPM continues to increase as international partners also broaden their work nature and opportunities.
“The demand still grows. More of the IT-BPM industries that are here are expanding because those who managed it overseas or partners also demand more work opportunities for them,” he added.
On July 26, the DICT XI in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment-Davao will conduct a job fair with 4,049 job vacancies from 31 employers mostly from the ICT industry, to be held in SM City Davao at Annex on June 26.
Among the local jobs include customer sales representative, customer service champion, technical support expert, virtual assistant, healthcare consultant, accounting, cashier, telco consultant, and rider.
