Davao City – Fresh from their stint in the recent 2023 Malaysia Cup, young gymnasts from the Davao Golden Twist Gymnastics (DGTG) will take part in the coming 2023 1st Mindanao Open set this September 8 to 10 at the Gaisano Grand Citygate Davao.
“The team is in high morale going to the first Mindanao Open Gymnastics after a superb performance during the Malaysia Cup. This time they will compete with other local entries from nearby cities,” said Johnny Diaz Romualdo, coach of team Davao Golden Twist Gymnastics who came at the weekly Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum along with DGTG President Jan Sia Sangutan and coordinator Cassandra Louise Tuazon.
Also present in the weekly sports gab are DGTG Malaysian medalists led by six year-old Chalsea Belle Louise Tuazon (3 golds, 1 bronze), nine year-old Ara Sol Cruze (2 golds, 1 silver, 1 bronze), eight year-old Lexinne Trinidad (1 bronze), eight year-old Liza Mirschler (1 bronze), 12 year-old Junayda Jaji (3 golds, 2 silvers, 1 bronze) and 14 year-old Kiesha Joy Bisera (2 golds, 1 bronze).
Sangutan also added that the Davao Golden Twist Gymnastics eyes to develop local gymnasts who will eventually take part in national and international competitions while Tuazon bared that the Malaysia Open tournament was an eye opener for our local entries that they can compete and deliver medals in international competitions. “We train kids as early as six years-old and with upcoming competitions such as the first Mindanao Open on September then the coming Batang Pinoy and Philippine National Games this December. This would be a good avenue for us local players from to showcase their skills,” Romualdo said.
For the first Mindanao Open, some 12 clubs are expected to join the scheduled five event competition. Aside from Davao City, teams from Ilocos, Santiago, Butuan, Bislig, Koronadal, General Santos, Pagadian, Cagayan de Oro and Digos had confirmed to take part. Jon Develos
